So… what about Vickers?

The end of Prometheus seemed to favor Elizabeth Shaw and her quest for truth, killing Vickers off to facilitate things.

But then Alien Covenant ended up favoring David and his quest of creation, killing Shaw off to facilitate things, and giving David more focus. No more ambiguity, turns out he always hated his father/creator Peter Weyland (who he had to obey without question) as well as his obsession with humanity’s origins, and just wanted to create stuff by himself.

So now I wonder, how does Meredith Vickers fit into all this? And what if she had been the one to survive Prometheus and wasn’t just killed off like Shaw afterwards?

Because Vickers also hated her father Peter Weyland, so much so that she left her important position in the company for years just to see him admiting he’s wrong or being proven wrong and killed, but apparently also resented David for being Weyland’s favorite despite being just a machine, to the point that she herself went on to become almost machine-like perfect in the stuff she does. The influence her father had on her was comparable to David having to follow his orders.

But imagine both characters interacting after Peter Weyland’s death. Vickers having to confront a David now free of Mr. Weyland’s orders. Imagine the fact that she too is free from his influence but supposedly always was by virtue of being human. Imagine their similarities and differences both in their situations and ideals (”A king has his reign and then he dies”, anyone? David could easily apply it to humanity in general). And did David also resent her for looking down to him all those years?

There is a lot we can’t know now in part because there was obviously some change of mind behind the scenes. But it’s nice to ponder.
